Governors
Welcome to our Governors' Section.
Governors are one of the largest volunteer forces in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards. The role of the governing body is key to the effective running of our school.
What do governors do?
School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools. Governors appoint the head teacher and are involved in the appointment of other staff. It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, and it is governors who work with the head teacher to make the tough decisions about balancing resources.
Each individual governor is a member of a governing body, which is established in law as a corporate body. Decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing body.
The role of the governing body is a strategic one, its key functions are to:
- set the aims and objectives for the school
- set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives
- set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives
- monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
- be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend)
Julie Breedon - I am the Chair of Governors.
I have been a governor for 17 years and my four children have all attended our school, the last of whom is now at the National Academy. As well as attending meetings, I am also the link governor for SEN and meet regularly with the SEN co-ordinator. I also do voluntary work in school each week.
Malcolm Handley – I am Chaplain for the school and am also a Foundation Governor, representing the congregation and vicar at St. Mary Magdalene’s. In my role as Chaplain I visit the school every week to lead collective worship. I also attend various committees, especially those relating to Pupils.
Sarah Barratt – Headteacher
Mrs Jenner – I am a member of support staff at the school and have been a member of the Governing Body for a few years. My role in school is as Cover Supervisor, which means I work in classes across the school. I have worked at the school for many years and my children came to Hucknall National.
Mrs Greenhill - Staff Governor
Joanne Smith - I am a foundation governor appointed by the local church in September 2014. I have two children attending the school and I am the link governor for EYFS.
I am interested in giving children the right foundations for them to make good progress through school and believe the school has a lot to offer young children as they start their education.
Rachael Burn - I am a foundation Governor appointed in April 2016. I have three children - my oldest attends the National Academy and my second child is in Key Stage 2 here at Hucknall National C of E Primary. I was delighted to be appointed as Governor and enjoy helping our school to achieve greater and greater things.
Edd de Coverly – I am a parent governor, elected in March 2017. I currently have two children at the school and work with the other governors to ensure our children receive the best and most rounded education they can. I attend the full governors meetings and contribute to a number of the sub-committees.
