Christian Distinctiveness
As a Church of England school, we have a strong focus on Christian distinctiveness and working closely with our church family within the community.
We have very close links with our local parish church of St Mary Magdalene in Hucknall. Of course, this is where the very first form of education in Hucknall was recorded in 1649 in the church porch, which still stands today. The very foundations and heritage of our school began in the church as part of a Sunday school, where young people would be taught to read and access the Bible.
In 2024, we still have very close links with St Mary Magdalene and are very fortunate to have a strong and devoted clerical team to support us in many aspects of our Christian vision, including:
- Weekly worship
- Planning and delivery of our Christian curriculum
- Welcome service for all new starters at our school
- Services throughout the year to learn and celebrate our Christian life
- Weekly after school worship for families to attend.
In addition to this, we are well supported by other churches in Hucknall, having worship led by Methodist and Baptist clergy. We also have links with St Michael's parish church in Linby through our collaboration.

Link to St Mary Magdalene Church, Hucknall. Here you will find lots of information about our local church, the history of the parish and the extensive work they do in the community.
Being a part of St Mary Magdalene's Church community is a vital part of our school - not just today - but in our history. It was in the porch of this church that our school first began. When you walk inside you can still see the stone ledges which the first children to attend our school sat on to learn. Our school had an actual room of its own in the Head Teachers House is 1788.
Our local congregation regularly pray for us and we share our Education Sunday Service and walk with them. There are so many talented people in the congregation who help us in school in so many ways. Recently two of the ladies in the congregation kindly turned the children's designs into altar cloths for us, so we have the same colours on the cloths as there are in the church throughout the year.
After School Worship
Each Tuesday after school our clergy team and member of the congregation lead and take part in worship with our families in school. Families come along for tea and biscuits and then take part in singing and Godly play activities together. 2023-4 is the second year of our After School Worship and it is growing term on term. We are welcoming more families and sharing the Good News together.
