Our Autumn term topic is 'The Victorians'. Across our wider curriculum, Year 6 will explore a rich range of subjects linked to our Victorian theme. In History, we will examine Victorian education and consider how key pieces of legislation have shaped and improved children’s lives today. Through Geography, pupils will study the British Empire, developing an understanding of its global impact and legacy.
In Art, we will explore the work of William Morris, analysing his distinctive prints and creating our own designs inspired by his style. Our DT lessons will focus on bridge building, giving pupils the opportunity to apply practical skills, problem‑solve, and work collaboratively.
In Computing, pupils will continue to develop their coding skills, while our Online Safety sessions will concentrate on self‑image and how to navigate the digital world responsibly and confidently.
Forces in STEM: RAF visit
Year 6 attended the Forces in STEM workshop at RAF Cosford, where pupils had the opportunity to explore real‑world applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The workshop provided valuable hands‑on experiences, allowing pupils to see how STEM skills are used in modern aviation, engineering and problem‑solving. It was an engaging and inspiring visit that helped pupils make meaningful connections between their classroom learning and the wider world.
PGL
This half-term, Year 6 had the opportunity to visit PGL for a day of team‑building and challenge. Pupils took part in a range of activities designed to build confidence, strengthen cooperation, and (at times) provide a healthy dose of adrenaline!
Throughout the visit, pupils learned a great deal about themselves: recognising their strengths, supporting one another, and pushing beyond their comfort zones to try new experiences. It was a valuable and memorable start to the year.
Forest Schools
Year 6 also took part in our Forest School sessions out in the cold winter weather. Despite the snow, pupils showed great resilience and enthusiasm as they learned how to identify suitable firewood and practised using flint and cotton wool to create sparks. These sessions offered valuable opportunities to develop practical outdoor skills, work collaboratively, and build confidence in a challenging environment.
