Spring: World War 2

This term, our topic will be World War II, with a particular focus on the experiences of evacuees. In History, pupils will follow the journey of the children who were forced to leave their homes during the Blitz, exploring both the challenges they faced and the impact these events had on their lives. This historical study will form the foundation for our Geography, where pupils will examine the movement of the Allies and AXIS powers across Europe and the countries involved in World War II.

In Art, we will study the work of Henry Moore, analysing his wartime sketches and sculptures to understand how artists recorded and responded to the events of the period. Our DT lessons will explore food rationing, culminating in the creation of a World War II–themed menu that reflects the limitations and creativity of the era.

In Computing, pupils will develop their skills using micro:bit technology and will also learn the principles of blogging as a means of sharing information responsibly. Our Online Safety curriculum will focus on online reputations and health and well‑being, helping pupils understand how their digital choices shape how they are perceived and how they feel.

In R.E., pupils will study the Kingdom of God, exploring what kind of king Jesus was, and in our Salvation unit we will consider what difference the Resurrection makes for Christians today.

We are also looking forward to Science Week, during which Dr Savage will be visiting Year 6 to share insights into his research at Harvard University. Pupils will have the opportunity to learn about his fascinating work with axolotls, exploring how real scientific study helps us understand regeneration, biology and the wider scientific world. This visit promises to be an inspiring highlight of the term and a valuable chance for pupils to see science in action.

As we move through the term, SATs are now on the horizon, and pupils will begin preparing steadily and confidently for the assessments ahead. To support this, we will be offering after‑school revision sessions each week: Mondays for Reading, Tuesdays for Maths, and Thursdays for Grammar. These sessions are open to all pupils, providing a calm, structured environment to revisit key skills — and, as always, free toast will be available to keep everyone fuelled and focused.
