The National Readathon 11126! 

Once again, back by popular demand, we are hosting the National Readathon! We have embraced our love of reading across the whole of the Spring 2 term with a range of celebrations. This year, we hosted Bedtime Story for EYFS and KS1 and Book Cafe for KS2, had the return of the Masked Reader as well as Book Bake Off! All children had the opportunity to join 'Starbooks' to explore our Recommended Reads and we had the first Teacher Swap where our teachers went to read to a different year group. 

Book Swap

The children were invited to bring in any pre-loved books from home to swap with their friends. We set up a Book Swap in the hall and each year group visited to choose their next read to take home.

We love to create opportunities for our children to enjoy reading in different settings. For World Book Day this year, we had our 'Starbooks' cafe open for all of the children to enjoy in school with their friends and after school with their families.

The National Readathon 11125! 

Back by popular demand, we are yet again hosting the National Readathon! At Hucknall National Primary School, we do not believe in celebrating just one day on World Book Day but use the whole of the Spring 2 term to encourage the enjoyment of reading and reading habits for life.  We have had a fantastic time celebrating reading with a Book Swap, Breakfast Bookfest, Book Bake Off, a Reading Cafe, as well as the Masked Reader and World Book Day. Thank you so much to everyone that has donated and supported us throughout the Readathon; we are able to use that money to go directly back into creating more resources and opportunities to get our children reading! 

Book Bake Off 11125 Winners!

Year 6 had the difficult task of deciding on the winners for our Book Bake Off challenge for 11125. Every child who entered received a chocolate egg as a prize. Our winners will also receive an additional treat coming soon. The winners in no particular order and by category are:

Book Cafe 11125

Thank you for all the donations of books we have had for the Book Swap. We had so many left over that we had enough to share at the Book Cafe too! The Book Cafe took place after school and children were invited to attend with an adult to enjoy some cake, a drink and to enjoy a book together. Pupils were also able to take home as many books as they wanted for free!

Book Jam 11125

All of Key Stage 2 have completed a book rap battle in assembly today. Their challenge was to take inspiration from their reading and rap about their favourite books. Year 6 Falcon Class were the overall winners of the battle (judged by Year 2 and EYFS) but all the competitors put in a very good effort and performance. Well done!
